Frequently Ask Questions - General

What is Virtual Web Hosting?
We are specialized in Virtual Web Hosting, which means that you can find a home for your web site on our active web servers and establish a presence on the internet. We can help you to register your own domain name and it will become your unique address on the World Wide Web. Since email can be addressed to your domain (eg: www.yourdomain.com ), you will not have to announce a new email address if you change to another Internet provider or web hosting company.

Do you offer dial-up Internet access?
No! This will cause additional demand of traffic going in both directions and would only impede the high performance of our servers. Therefore, customer will need a local Internet service provider (ISP) for accessing the Internet, mail services and also for files transfer.

Will I have unlimited access to update my pages?
Yes! You will have unlimited access 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer system at your leisure.

Is there any additional charge for data transferred per month, or hits?
No, hits are unlimited!

How many client sites are put on each web server? Do you move sites to different servers if a given server has a high load? Is this monitored?
We do move clients according to demand. We keep the peak CPU load below 50% on all machines and our bandwidth is always 30% under utilized.

Do you offer web page design services?
No! We do not offer web page design services. However, when you signed up with us we would create a kick-start 5 free web pages (1 main page, 3 product pages and 1 feedback / enquiry form, which based on the material and write out provided by your company)

Do you provide submission of URL to search engines?
No! But we do help to insert keywords and description (a necessary step before submission) into the homepage of your website.  You may engage the service of experts ( http://www.worldsubmit.com ) to submit your URL to search engines.

Do you support ASP scripts and MS Access 2000 database?
Yes, our default server is Windows NT4.0 Server. It can support ASP with MS Access 2000 database, XML and Frontpage Server Extension.

How can I set up a database to be used in the Internet?
In many cases, you can get your database connectivity established by uploading the database to your site, and then send an email to tech@cybersite.com.sg contacting our Technical Support Department to request the database connection be set up. Please include the following information in the email you send:

Program Name: The program which you used to create your database.

DSN: The name of the DSN which you have created for your database.

Data Source: The path where you have uploaded your database.

Why the web pages did not show up on the browser after uploading?
Possible reasons:

  • The first page is not titled index.html. Be sure to use all lower case and not white spaces in your document titles.
  • You did not load your index.html page into the html directory.
  • The domain has not propagated the Internet or you did not pay your NIC company's bill.

Why are images not showing up on the browser after uploading?
All images file names are case sensitive and must be saved in .gif or .jpg format. Please also ensure that there are no spaces or odd characters in the file name. All graphics files are to be uploaded as well as the HTML pages. Just because a graphic is in the page does not mean it will also be transferred to the servers along with the HTML page.

What is Internet Propagation Time?
Internet Propagation is the time that it takes for all the servers in the world to recognize a new IP address once it has been transferred. Standard propagation time is one to three days.

At what speed will my web site be connected to the Internet?
CyberSite manages its own range of servers which are connected directly to the Internet through its own high-speed lines. We are on ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) Technology, which is a technology designed for the high-speed transfer of voice, video, and data through the internet using cell relay technology. The actual bandwidth is 34mb/sec but it is capped at 10mb/sec at the moment. These connections are made via separate network providers to the Internet backbone and provide excellent speed and reliability.
